Bristol Music Therapy

A new Music Therapy service for Bristol, Gloucestershire, & Somerset

  • Our approach

We are committed to a client-centred approach to music therapy, letting you take the lead and share with us how you experience your world.

Our view is that every person is innately musical, creative, and has the capacity to lead life in the most meaningful way for themselves. We see therapy as a journey in which the therapist travels alongside the client through their experiences and meaning making. We aim to make our space judgement free, supportive, and open to all forms of expression.

  • Who can benefit from Music Therapy?

Anyone can benefit from Music Therapy!

Clients may come to Music Therapy because sometimes they can’t find the words to express themselves. Music Therapists create a space that supports free creative expression, and use music that’s made collaboratively between client and therapist to work towards personal and relational goals.

  • How many sessions do I need?

How long is a piece of music? Each person will take their own journey - sometimes long-term, sometimes only for a short while. Bristol Music Therapy is here to support and engage with clients for however long they feel therapy is useful for them.

We regularly review therapy with our clients, taking some time to check in every 6 weeks and a more thorough review at 12 week checkpoints.

  • Do I need to be musical?

No! Music Therapy can work for anyone, whether they regularly practice or have never picked up an instrument. We don’t teach you how to play, we work with your innate musicality. What matters most is that you are ready to be open, honest, and creatively engage in the process.

What is Music Therapy?

Music Therapy is an evidence-based psychological intervention, delivered by HCPC registered music therapists.

Every person has the ability to respond to music. Music Therapy uses this fact to facilitate positive change through live musical interactions and relationship building between client and therapist.

Music Therapists are Allied Health Professionals that work with a wide variety of people across all ages, abilities and stages of life.

Our Values

  • Bristol Music Therapy Personal White Stick Person Outline

    Personal

We believe that each client is unique. We don’t prescribe ‘cookie cutter’ interventions. Instead, each client’s therapy is totally bespoke.

  • Bristol Music Therapy Relational Speech Bubbles With Musical Notes Outline

    Relational

We believe that a strong therapeutic relationship can be a catalyst for profound change. We will work to create a space that is supportive for your journey.

  • Bristol Music Therapy Client Centred Concentric Circles Outline

    Client-Centred

We believe in letting the client direct their course of therapy. Instead of prioritising what the therapist thinks, we treat you as the expert of your own experience.

  • Bristol Music Therapy Theoretically Informed Lightbulb Book and Essay Outlines

    Evidence-Based

We believe that clients get the best out of therapy when their therapist continues to learn. We strive to continue developing our own knowledge with up-to-date theory.

Where we are

For younger clients we are able to facilitate sessions in school during school times, for adult clients we work out of local studios and spaces that clients are able to conveniently travel to. We are also able to offer home visits and will travel to most places in Bristol, Somerset or Gloucestershire. All we ask is that a parking space is made available nearby to where you’d like the therapy to take place.
